Marvel super heroes top picks for each color to go in the 99

The Marvel Super Heroes set is releasing very soon. Whenever a new set comes out it's fun to check out all the new commanders and their deck potentials. The other thing I love to do is browse the cards by color and find cards that can broadly slot into existing decks to give them a slight boost. I'll showcase one card from each color that can fit into a variety of different decks .

White Mana: Political Triumph

Political Triumph

Political Triumph is such a great value card. This one mana enchantment can be played early and its payoff can be triggered early as well. White mana just loves to spew out creature tokens and even if it isn't, just 4 creatures need to enter the battlefield. Along the way you will get to scry 4 times which will help ensure that the card you draw when you sacrifice it is the one you need. I like big splashy cards, but I also love cards like this that come down easily and give value in multiple ways.

Black Mana: M.O.D.O.K

M.O.D.O.K.

A legendary creature on the list? Sure, he would make a fine commander for a mono black deck but I think there's a case to be made here. This card has a lot going for it. A flying, life-linking attacker that can connive as many times as you're willing to pay 3 life on your turn. Oh yea, and your opponents creatures also get -1/-1. I would slot this villain into a deck that has other colors. Alone he provides a ton of value that works with several strategies. If he were in a deck with a little white life gain you could easily make up for the connive cost. I believe that casting M.O.D.O.K. unexpectedly from your deck would go farther than him sitting in the command zone with your opponents eyeballing him.

Blue mana: Multiversal incursion

Multiversal Incursion

I'll admit that I'm a sucker for big splashy cards which is likely why I started playing commander in the first place. This card may cost 7 mana but it's likely going to end the game in chaotic fashion. Making each token non-legendary makes this card work in my eyes. Doubling your creature count, creature abilities, and creature ETB's seems like a lot of fun. Imagine having a token doubler out or an effect that cares about creatures entering the battlefield. Blue decks can sometimes have trouble finding a way to close out a game that doesn't put the table to sleep but this card will have everyone leaning forward in their chairs.

Red Mana: Hex Magic

Hex Magic

This is exactly the kind of impulse draw that red players love. I especially like this card because you get to dig deeper into your deck and exile the cards in your hand rather than off the top of your library. It gives you a little extra flexibility knowing that you have until the end of your next turn to cast the exiled cards. Is it better than Jeska's Will? I don't think so but it gives you more redundancy with the same effect which will make your deck more consistent game-to-game.

Green mana: world war hulk

World War Hulk

This will hardly be a surprise pick for most players. This card does everything that green mages want to do. It is immediately impactful as your next creature card (red or green) cast this turn is free. This could potentially put down a massive threat that wouldn't have made it in for a few more turns. Imagine dropping a ghalta, stampede tyrant after this saga and then dumping your hand. You run the risk of getting board wiped but your opponents are essentially in check, if not checkmate, if they don't have one. It continues to give you value for a couple more turns making it even better.

Writer and member of Nerd leagues. I started playing Magic in 2013 when a couple of my friends visited me and taught me how to play. We soon after picked up on the commander format and have played it ever since. This website started as spreadsheet that we kept track of our games on and has evolved into this website. Our passions for the game run deep.
